With reference to previous cor-
-respondence ending with your predecessor's despatch No. 98
of the 29th. May, 1909, I have the honour to inform you
that I took advantage of the presence of Mr. R. E. Stubbs
in the Colony to discuss the question of the remuneration
of the Director of Public Works.
I pointed out that in this Colony
owing to the concentration in the Public Works Department
of the control of the Waterworks, the Drainage System of
the Colony, schemes for improvement, laying out of new
areas, large harbour works including reclamations and such
works as the new Mongkoktsui Harbour Refuge, municipal
engineering works including the maintenance of roeds,
telephones and telegraphs, and the connection of private
duties
drains with the sewers of the Colony, and the manifold
